NÛR Candle Guidelines
Trim the wick
It is crucial to trim the wick before relighting your candle every time. Start by trimming the wick, using our NÛR Wick Trimmer, to be between 1/8 and 1/4 inches long.
Why should you trim your wick every time? This allows you to achieve a cleaner and brighter burn. If you relight a candle without trimming the wick, your flame may take on a strange shape that dulls and obscures the flame. Another reason to trim your wick is to prevent black smoke stains that will end up on the candle vessel; therefore, to keep the flame in control, it is important to trim the wick.
Let the wax melt across the top layer
Upon lighting a candle, it is important to let the wax melt all the way across - this may take a couple of hours so try not to light a candle if you do not have the time to let it burn for a while. This can also be called the candle memory, failing to let the candle wax melt all the way across can lead to candle tunnelling which is when a tunnel is formed, and the wick starts to sink through the centre of the candles. Eventually, this will result in the candle being wasted as the rest of the wax around the sides will not melt and you will lose hours of fragrance and burn time.
Candle burning time
Burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time will allow carbon to collect on the wick and your wick will begin to “mushroom” - this may result in the flame becoming too large for the candle. This can also release soot into the air and around the candle vessel.
Keep your candle away from moving air
Try to keep your burning candle away from open windows, fans, and air conditioners. Moving air can disturb the flame which can create stains on the vessel and can also start a tunnelling process.
Dip your wick
This is one of the most important tips. When you blow your candle out you will notice a lot of smoke. This is because the core of the wick continues to burn for a short time and the inside of the wick can turn to carbon and making it brittle.
You will also notice the smell of smoke taking over, to stop this from happening, we advise you dip the wick to extinguish the flame using our NÛR Candle Dipper. After you have dipped your flame out, prop the wick up again from the wax so that it is ready to light again for its next burn.
